【摘要】:MeasurementsofRImadebythistestmethod,withthe0.2x00B0;observationangle,arerelatedtovisualobservationofraisedretroreflectivepavementmarkersatdistancesofapproximately220m(720ft)forcarsorapproximately440m(1440ft)fortruckswhenilluminatedbytungstenfilamentlightsourcessuchascarheadlights.Therearesomecastingsthatblockvehicleilluminationofaportionofthemarkermountedwithinit.Inthiscase,measuredRIcanbesignificantlylowerthanwhenthemarkerisphotometeredoutsidethecasting,butwillcorrespondtothevisualobservation.Thetestmethodisnotapplicabletoraisedpavementmarkersmountedindepressionscutintothepavement.Thecoefficientofluminousintensityofraisedretroreflectivepavementmarkersdegradeswithtrafficwearandrequiresperiodicmeasurementtoensurethatsufficientvisibilityisprovidedtothedriver.Thequalityofthepavementmarkersastomaterialsused,ageandwearpattern,willhaveaneffectonthecoefficientof(retroreflected)luminousintensity.Theseconditionsneedtobeobservedandnotedbytheuser.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthemeasurementoftheretroreflectivepropertiesofraisedretroreflectivepavementmarkersataprescribedgeometry,bymeansofaportableretroreflectometerthatcanbeusedinthefield.Themeasurementscanbecomparedtominimumrequirementstodeterminetheneedforreplacement.1.2TheobservationanglespecifiedforretroreflectometersinthistestmethodisthatcurrentlyspecifiedforraisedpavementmarkersintheUnitedStatesandmaydifferfromtheanglesusedelsewhere.Forotherjurisdictions,replacetheobservationsanglespecifiedhereinwiththeobservationanglespecifiedbythepertinentagency.1.3Thistestmethodisintendedtobeusedforfieldmeasurementofraisedretroreflectivepavementmarkersbutmayalsobeusedtomeasuretheperformanceofnewmarkersbeforetheyareplacedinthefield.1.4Thistestmethodcoversmeasurementsofraisedpavementmarkersmountedonaroadsurfaceormountedinsnow-plowablemetalcastings.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thestandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
