【摘要】:Informationaboutthegenerictypeofcoatingonasurfaceisrequiredtoselectcompatiblecoatingsforrepaintingandcanbeusedwhenevaluatingtheperformanceofacoatinginanenvironmentindecisionsonupgradingorreplacingacoatingsystem.Thisguideprovidesasystematicprocedureforidentifyingthegenerictypeofacoating.Theprocedurecanbeperformedinthefieldbypersonnelwithlimitedlaboratoryexperience,andrequiresaminimumofequipmentandmaterials.1.1Thispracticedescribesproceduresandportableapparatusfordeterminingthegenerictypeofcoatingfilmsmostlikelytobeencounteredonstructures.Thecoatingcaneitherbeweatheredfromexposureorbefreshlyapplied.1.2Mostcommonlyusedcoatingscanbedividedintothebroadcategoriesandsubgroupsshowninonthebasisofthenonvolatilecomponent(generictypes)oftheirvehicle(filmformingresin,binder).Althoughthecuringofsomecoatingsinvolvesmorethanoneprocessandcoatingsmaycontainmorethanonetypeofresin,theycanusuallybeassignedtooneofthebasicclassesandgenerictypeslistedin.1.3Forfieldexposedcoatings,itissuggestedthatthesetestmethodsbeusedaspartofacompleteevaluationofacoatedsurfaceasitisfrequentlyhelpfultoconsidertheenvironmentofexposureandhowthecoatinghasperformedintheenvironmentwhendrawingconclusionsfromthesetests.1.4Theseprocedureswillnotresultintheidentificationofcomponentsofacoatingbeyondgeneralclassificationofthecoatingbygenerictypeandarenotappropriateifmoredetailedanalysisisrequired,forexample,asapartoffailureanalysisortoidentifybetweendifferentmanufacturersofthesametypeofcoating.Theyalsomaynotbedefinitiveenoughtoidentifycomplexsystemsthatincludemultiplelayersofdifferentgenerictypesofcoatings.1.5Theevaluationofresultsisquitesubjective.Practiceandexperiencearerequiredtominimizemisinterpretation.Repeattestsmayberequired.1.6Noneofthetestistobetakenaloneasgroundsforidentifyingthegenerictype.Onlythecombinationofresultsfromseveralorallofthetestsistobeusedinconclusionsregardinggenerictypes.1.7ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.8Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatementssee5.3.4,6.3.1,6.3.3,7.4,and8.4.
