【摘要】:Exteriordimensionstoneischosenforuseincontemporaryarchitectureinpartbecauseofitsaestheticappeal.Aestheticscanbesignificantlydiminishedwhendirt,grime,flyash,algaeandothercontaminantscollectonthesurfaceofstone.Thisguideisintendedtoassistthosewhowishtopreservetheoriginalappearanceofanewstructureortoreturnastone-cladbuildingtoitsoriginalcolorandappearance.Notethatcleaningmaynotbeabletoreturndiscoloredorfadedstonetoitsoriginalappearance.Thisguidemaybeusedasaconstructiondocument.1.1Thisguidedescribesmaterialsandprocedureswhichmaybeusedtocleandimensionstoneexteriorsaswellastheconditionsunderwhichtheymaybeused.Itisintendedtoaidowners,maintenancesupervisorsandbuildingmanagers,architectsandengineers,andcontractorsincleaningverticalexteriordimensionstoneoncommercial,residentialandinstitutionalstructures.Thisguidemayalsobehelpfultothosewhowishtocleanstonemasonryonbridges,retainingwalls,ramps,andplazas,andfree-standingstoneobjectssuchasstatuary,memorialsandgravemarkers.1.2Thisguiderelatesprimarily,toroutinemaintenanceofthesurfacefinishofexteriordimensionstone.Thetechniquesnotedhereinmaynotbeappropriateorcosteffectivewithregardtorestorationofdisfigured,severelysoiledorstainedstonework,orofstoneworkofparticularhistoricimportance.Incaseswherestainingoccursonsurfaceswhichhavecultural,civic,historicorarchitecturalsignificance,consultationwithaspecialistisrecommended.1.3TheuserofthisguideshouldalsoobtainandhaveonfileatboththejobsiteandtheofficeMaterialSafetyDataSheets(MSDS)describingthenatureofallchemicalproductsutilizedduringthecleaningprocess.1.4Afileofliteraturefromthemanufacturersofallproductsinvolvedwithinthescopeofeachprojectshouldbeavailableforreference.1.5Theseproceduresarenotintendedforinteriorstonework.1.6Thisguideoffersanorganizedcollectionofinformationoraseriesofoptionsanddoesnotrecommendaspecificcourseofaction.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthisguidemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.ThisASTMstandardisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisdocumentbeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaprojectx2019;smanyuniqueaspects.Thewordx201C;Standardx201D;inthetitleofthisdocumentmeansonlythatthedocumenthasbeenapprovedthroughtheASTMconsensusprocess.1.7Thevaluesstatedineitherinch-poundunitsorSIunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.1.8Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatoryrequirementspriortouse.
